Let's talk about You.

New year, new "You!"

Yes, that's right. This creepy motherfucker has officially returned to our lives. In an effort to write more (and feel better about the amount of TV I watch), I've decided to start writing recaps! Or at least give it a try and see how it feels.

As I've mentioned before, I'm a recap girl. I read (and then reread) every recap Last Ditch Effort wrote about Gilmore Girls the first (and second) time I watched it and really enjoyed reading her commentary on the series. "I ought to try that," I thought. And so, here we are.

I'm also a creepy show girl. (Creepy show [space] girl, not creepy showgirl.) I LOVE ME A CREEPY SERIES. I literally have a note on my phone dedicated to keeping lists of creepy shows people tell me about. (I'm down to two. If anyone has any recommendations, I'm all ears.) And then I devour them in one long binge-fest, and then Sean wakes up to me screaming, "WHERE'S THE METH?" (Breaking Bad was a wild few months for me.)

While there are lots of creepy shows to choose from, I picked "You" for my recap-writing debut for a few reasons:

  1. Timing. I made the choice to try this out about a week ago. And guess which show dropped a second season about a week ago? Kismet.

  2. Subject matter. "You" is creepy AF, which means there's a lot to unpack in each episode. I haven't watched season two yet, but if it's anything like season one, I feel like I'll have plenty of material.

  3. Commitment. Season two is only 10 episodes long, so if I realize this whole recap writing thing isn't for me, it'll be easy to move on.

Also, let's face it, the new year + the name of this series lobbed up an easy ball for me, making it easy to knock "new year, new 'you'" right out of the park.

Also also, I've heard from many people that they started watching "You" but then couldn't bear to finish it because they were too creeped out. Well, now you don't have to watch because I'll watch for you! Instead of watching and cringing, you can read through a filtered lens and (hopefully) not find the writing cringe-worthy.

I should probably rewatch season one before kicking this off, but I really don't want to, so I'm not gonna. My blog, my rules.

Thanks, Penn.

So, let's get this show on the road, shall we? I'll start watching "You," stop having normal dreams, and get recapping!

Stay tuned!
